Accrington tasted victory in a league game for the first time in five matches, beating Lowerhouse by 63 runs at Thorneyholme Road. Accrington's new opening partnership of Geoff Hayhurst and Andy Gardener put on 56, the second highest of the season to help the home side make 168-7. After Gardener was bowled by Alan Holden for 25, professional Rod Tucker (29) added 54 with Hayhurst. Billy Rawstron (12) helped the opener take the score to 133. Hayhurst finally fell for 69, caught by Jez Hope off professional Tony Dodemaide after having hit six fours from the 119 balls that he faced with the score on 152. Paul Barratt (10) and Mark Aspin (9) collected some late runs with Roger Bromley taking 4-53 for the visitors. Tucker then took 5-43 and Alan Worsick 2-16 from 14 overs to bowl Lowerhouse out for 105. At one stage the visitors were 30-5 but Stan Heaton hit 50 from 58 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes to help take the score into three figures. Heaton added 17 with Dodemaide (21) and 44 with wicketkeeper Chris Scott for the 7th wicket to earn a collection of £15.56. Accrington stay 12 points behind leaders Todmorden in fourth place.
