Accrington came out second best against Haslingden inspite of making their highest score of the season in an end of season run fest at Thorneyholme Road. Graham Lloyd hit a senior best 84 to take Accrington to 225-3 on a sun drenched afternoon. Openers Lloyd and Geoff Hayhurst put on 134 before Hayhurst fell in the 32nd over for 49, made from 89 balls. Lloyd then added 40 with professional Rod Tucker who made exactly 50 from 46 balls with seven fours and a six. Lloyd hit fourteen fours from the 113 balls that he faced, falling to Alan Barnes (2-96) at 174 in the 39th over. Billy Rawstron made an unbeaten 19 as the overs ran out. Haslingden were struggling at 68-4 with John Entwistle (9), Mike Ingham (0), Bob Grimshaw (1) and Alan Massicks (10) back in the pavilion but Paul Blackledge made a senior best 28 in adding 57 for the 5th wicket with skipper Bryan Knowles who departed at 125 for 84. Knowles hit six fours and three sixes in facing 100 balls, passing 10,000 Lancashire League runs and 500 for the season during his innings. This left Haslingden needing 101 from 16 overs when professional Hartley Alleyne came to the crease. The West Indian lost Blackledge at 165 and Peter Dickinson at 188 but with Sidley making an unbeaten 15 in an unbroken 8th wicket stand of 39, Alleyne's 63 from 45 balls (eight fours and a six) proved to be the match winning innings on an afternoon that saw 452 runs scored with the visitors registering a 3 wicket win.
