Accrington won at home for the first time this season, beating East Lancs by 6 wickets. Accrington professional Rod Tucker claimed his first victims at Thorneyholme Road, snapping up opener Craig Smith (8) and skipper Wayne Cooper (3). David Lloyd then sent back professional Steve Jefferies (6) and Graham Tattersall (7) to have the visitors 62-4 after 24 overs. A stand of 45 between David Pearson and John Wharton took the score to 107 when opener Pearson was stumped by Billy Rawstron off David Lloyd for 57, made from 91 balls and containing seven fours and a six. Andy Compton (10) became Lloyd's next victim at 129 and 11 runs later Wharton was also stumped by Rawstron off Lloyd for 36. Two runs later Phil Mooney was bowled by Ian Birtwistle for 6 and Ian Haworth was caught by Mark Aspin off Birtwistle without addition. David Lloyd picked up victim number six for off the final ball of the innings when Chris Turner was clean bowled to give Accrington the bonus point. Lloyd finished with 6-45, Tucker 2-21 and Birtwistle 2-26 from 7 overs. Aspin and Rawstron opened Accrington's reply with a stand of 23 before Jefferies had Aspin caught by Mooney for 12. Tucker fell to Ian Haworth for 8 at 52 in the 26th over. Alan Worsick was promoted up the order in a bid to increase the run rate but the veteran made only 5 in 3 balls before falling to Jefferies. Rawstron's 117 minute innings came to an end in the 34th over when he was bowled by Jefferies for 36.This brought Graham and David Lloyd together and the pair combined to see Accrington home with just 2 balls to spare. Graham made 44 from 58 balls, winning the match with a six and David 24 from 28 balls in an unbroken match winning 5th wicket stand of 64. Accrington's win made them joint leaders with Nelson after three matches. Scorecard
