Accrington fell to a second defeat of the season this time Ramsbottom being the team to gain revenge for an early season reverse. A high scoring match at Thorneyholme Road saw the visitors pile up 204-5 with Ian Bell making 56 from 69 balls, including eight fours out of an opening stand of 74 with Mick Rogers who went on to make 49. Professional David Hookes hit a brisk 41 from 28 balls with Steve Ashworth (23 not out) and Steve Hall (25) also chipping in. Openers Billy Rawstron (12) and professional David Lloyd (17) put on 31 and when Neil Jones (5) fell in Steve Ratcliffe's first over, Accrington were 42-3. A 4th wicket stand of 99 between Andy Stevenson, who made 61 from 110 balls with three fours and a six, and Mark Aspin (42 from 58 balls with six fours) put Accrington back in the game but wickets tumbled in the chase for runs, Paul Barratt and Neil Barnes both being run out. Andy Gardener (11) and Alan Worsick (10) also perished in the quest for victory. Graham Lloyd made his first appearance of the season batting at number ten and facing just one ball as Accrington finished on 181-9. Hookes took 3-75 and Brian Fielding 2-34 for Ramsbottom.
