Accrington's dismal end of season continued as they went down to a run rate defeat at Lowerhouse in the final match of 1985. After winning the toss, Accrington were restricted to 111-9 from 38 overs. Lowerhouse professional Dean St Hilaire took 4-43 and Roger Bromley 4-42. St Hilaire struck first by removing his opposite number David Lloyd for 13. Graham Lloyd was run out without scoring 4 runs later at 35 and Billy Rawstron was caught by Andy McNicholas off St Hilaire for 37. Neil Barnes and Neil Jones made 21 apiece before falling to Bromley who also sent back skipper Trevor Hatch (0) and Andy Gardener (0). Needing 82 from 28 overs, an opening stand of 39 by Keith Fairclough (24) and Chris Scott (23) put Lowerhouse firmly on course for victory. Ian Birtwistle (3-30) removed both men and followed up by having Chris Bleazard caught by Mark Aspin for 3. Brian Holmes was run out for 6 and Alan Worsick sent back McNicholas (11) and St Hilaire (0) with just 5 needed to finish with 2-2 but Stan Heaton (10 not out) and Alan Holden saw the home side to victory with 1 over to spare, Holden smashing the match winning six off Birtwistle's final ball. Accrington finished the season in fifth place after failing to win any of their final nine games of the season. Scorecard
