Accrington suffered their first defeat in six games losing to fellow title challengers Haslingden in the battle of first verses second by 65 runs at Bentgate. Things seemed to be going to plan when the home side were restricted to 125-9 in their full allocation of 46 overs, but Haslingden professional Hartley Alleyne came to the party in style taking 6-28 to roll the visitors over for just 60. Professional David Lloyd (3-19) and Ian Birtwistle (3-37) took 3 wickets apiece after a solid opening stand of 39 between skipper Bryan Knowles (20) and former Accrington junior Stuart Taylor (45) was broken by Alan Worsick. Mike Ingham made 31 from 64 balls and Bob Collins made 11. Highlight in the field was a brilliant one handed catch by Graham Lloyd to dismiss David Jackson. Alleyne was in inspired form removing David Lloyd (4) in his second over, Graham Lloyd (1) in his fifth over and skipper Trevor Hatch in his eighth over without scoring. Mark Aspin hit an unbeaten 14 from number seven and Billy Rawstron made 13 from the top of the order but everyone else was blown away by the three pronged pace attack of Alleyne, Alan Barnes (2-28) and John Sudworth (2-2). Accrington dropped one place to third eight points behind Haslingden and four behind East Lancs. Scorecard
