East Lancs gained revenge on league leaders Accrington for their opening day defeat with an 8 wicket win at a bitterly cold Thorneyholme Road. John Seedle again picked up a five wicket haul against Accrington taking 5-26 with Ian Haworth playing a supporting role taking 3-25 to dismiss Accrington for 113. It was Haworth who struck first by sending back opener Andy Stevenson (7) and professional David Lloyd (16). Seedle picked up opener Billy Rawstron in his first over for 21 after replacing professional Cyril Mitchley. The medium pacer added Mark Aspin to his list of victims in his second over before the Accrington man had opened his account and Haworth removed skipper Trevor Hatch for 7 to have the home side struggling at 54-5. Neil Jones (12) and Andy Gardener (10) put on 24 but both fell to Seedle at 78. Seedle dismissed Paul Barratt to earn a collection of £17.60 but it was the wily leg spinning veteran Brian Bowling (2-8) who wrapped up the innings by sending back Neil Barnes (16) and Alan Worsick (13) in successive balls after the pair had added 22 for the 9th wicket. Aspin removed opener Graham Tattersall (9) at 12 but David Pearson and skipper Wayne Cooper put together a match winning stand of 81 take take East Lancs to within 21 runs of victory. Worsick ended Cooper's fine knock of 54 from 82 balls which earned the visiting skipper a collection of exactly £16.00. Pearson went on to make an unbeaten 43 with John Wharton (2 not out) keeping him company to secure maximum points and consign Accrington to a first defeat of the season. Scorecard
