Accrington turned the tables on Burnley for their defeat six days previously, coming out on top in this replayed second game of the season at Thorneyholme Road by 55 runs. The match was a landmark in the career of young Graham Lloyd who made the most of his first chance to bat high up the order with a fine innings of 61. Losing Billy Rawstron (16) to Trevor Jones at 28, young Lloyd joined his father Accrington professional David Lloyd at the crease. Both players played some fine strokes all round the wicket in adding 127 for the 2nd wicket. Graham finally fell to Bob Whitaker stumped by Brent Pollard after having hit 61 from 102 balls with eight fours, earning a collection of £20.29 for his efforts, more than £10 more than his father would get for making 83 from 127 balls. The innings was stand-in skipper David's highest league score to date. Pollard was in action again five runs later stumping Alan Worsick off Jones without scoring. The innings ended on 184-4 with Andy Stevenson (9) and Neil Jones (11) both unbeaten. In reply Burnley always struggled after losing professional Mudassar Nazar (2) to Worsick at 8. Mark Aspin removed Trevor Pickup (9) and the Lloyds combined again in the field to remove both Roger Law (14) and Paul Killian (16). Neil Anderson stood firm making 44 and Duncan Spencer made 19. Graham Lloyd rounded off a day to remember by holding a third catch this time to send back Burnley skipper Peter Brown for 2. Worsick finished with 4-26 and Ian Birtwistle 3-26 as Burnley were bowled out for 129. Scorecard
