Accrington slumped to a second successive defeat this time losing at Bacup by 82 runs to slip down the table to fourth. Home professional Ashantha de Mel, who was playing his final match of the season after being picked for Sri Lanka's Test Series against India, top scored with 54 after the top order had folded against Alan Worsick (4-53). Terry Lord (15) helped his professional add 42 for the 4th wicket. The Usher brothers Peter (23) and David (21) also made runs down the order to enable Bacup to make 151 all out. De Mel then took 5-41 and Peter Fell 4-23 to roll Accrington over for just 69. On a lively surface, De Mel accounted for professional David Lloyd (9), Graham Lloyd (0), Mark Aspin (3), stand-in wicketkeeper Paul Barratt (14) and Worsick (1) with Fell sending back Geoff Hayhurst (12), skipper Trevor Hatch (8), Neil Jones (0), Andy Stevenson (11) and Andy Gardener (4) with the recalled Tony Gallagher unbeaten at the end of the innings.
