Accrington’s run of five successive defeats ended with a 5 wicket win over Nelson in a low scoring encounter at Thorneyholme Road. Accrington captain Alan Worsick took 5-23 opening the bowling with professional David Lloyd who took 3-28. Ian Birtwistle also chipped in with 2-6 as Nelson were bowled out for 68. Lloyd took the wicket of opener Ian Clarkson (6) at 20 to pave the way for his skipper to knock over professional Terry Hunte (4) and opener Howard Lonsdale (6). Lloyd sent back Paul Garaghty (5) with Worsick accounting for Peter Gildea (1), Michael  Vaughton (0) and Chris Hartley (17) to earn a £13.51 collection. Michael Bradley became Lloyd’s third victim and then Birtwistle wrapped up the innings with the wickets of Kevin Cullen (3) and Ian Pickles (10). Cullen put Nelson back in contention with the wicket of Lloyd (5) at 14 and then Pat Calderbank dismissed Mark Aspin (10) and opener Billy Rawstron (24). Neil Jones (13) fell to Pickles at 55 who also sent back Malcolm Taylor (7) with the scores level, but Trevor Hatch (6 not out) and Andy Gardener (2) saw Accrington to a welcome win. Scorecard
