A high scoring local derby at Thorneyholme Road saw Enfield come out on top by 5 runs. Good knocks by Keith and Andy Barker along with professional Madan Lal saw the visitors pile up 174-5. Keith Barker was first to go for 34 after adding 58 with his son Andy for the first wicket. Andy made 63 from 98 balls with six fours, adding 87 with Madan Lal who hit 44 from 75 balls. Skipper Alan Worsick picked up 4-12 in his second spell of three overs after having conceded 30 from his opening ten over spell. Enfield captain George Holt was unbeaten on 17 when the innings closed. Lal struck early snapping up the crucial wicket of home professional David Lloyd for 1, caught behind by Paul Swarbrick. Lal also removed Peter West (17) at 37. Tight bowling by the Enfield professional made scoring difficult but Billy Rawstron battled way to make 73 from 113 balls with six fours, earning a £35 collection for his efforts. Neil Jones (18), Worsick (13) and Malcom Taylor (18 not out) also chipped in but Accrington needed 18 off the final over for victory. Rawstron was run out off John Bramwell’s first ball but Taylor and Andy Gardener managed to knock 11 off the target but it proved too much for the home side who went down to their fourth defeat of the season, three of which were at home.
