Accrington suffered their second defeat of the season this time by 8 wickets at Colne after being bowled out for just 83. John Wainscott was Accrington’s main tormenter with 4-13 from 9.1 overs. Professional Collis King took 3-36 and Peter Lane 2-26 as the visitors were bowled out in the 34th and final over of their innings. Professional David Lloyd top scored with 24 from 84 balls, being fifth out at 52 in the 19th over, clean bowled by King. Trevor Hatch made 15 and last man Ian Birtwistle 13 in an innings dominated by the home attack. Mark Aspin accounted for Geoff Fryers at 3 but Eric Plant (20 not out) and Terry Little (22) took the score to 42 when Birtwistle removed Little to claim his 600th Lancashire League wicket. King then smashed three sixes and two fours in a typical quick-fire unbeaten 39 to win the match in the 20th over. Colne’s win helped them leapfrog Accrington into third place. Scorecard
