Accrington went down to an 8 run defeat to Colne at Thorneyholme Road. Skipper Alan Worsick took 4-25 and Trevor Hatch 4-44 with Geoff Fryers top scoring with 51 in Colne’s 148 all out. Trevor Kegg made 22 and Trevor Lonsdale 14 but Colne lost 3 wickets on 137 with Hatch picking up Kegg and Peter Lane in successive balls and Worsick cleaning up John Wainscott without scoring. The early loss of professional David Lloyd (1) put Accrington on the back foot immediately but newly promoted opener Andy Stevenson (22) and Malcolm Taylor (12) put on 26 before Colne professional Collis King (3-41) removed Taylor. New number four batsman Andy Gardener made 20, adding 29 with Stevenson before the opener fell to Wainscott in the 16th over at 56. Gary Hunt (3-52) picked up Trevor Hatch (7), Neil Jones (4) and Peter West (8) as the home side staggered to 98-8. A 9th wicket stand of 42 between Mark Aspin (15) and Worsick (27 not out) put Accrington back in the match but a target of 14 off the final over proved too much. Scorecard
