Accrington’s terrible sequence of results finally came to an end with a 7 wicket win at Bacup to end a run of ten defeats in eleven games.   Skipper Alan Worsick took 3-70, Mark Aspin 2-17 and professional David Lloyd 2-23 as Bacup made 131-8 in a match reduced to 23 overs a side by two rain interruptions. Opener Mark Taylor fell to Worsick without scoring and Aspin picked up the vital wicket of Bacup professional Ross Ormiston for 5 with the total on 16 in the 6th over. John Kershaw became Aspin’s second victim after making 19 from 45 balls. Peter Thompson was run out for 9 and then Roger Law was caught by Geoff Hayhurst off Worsick for a top score of 29 in the 17th over. Michael Hammond (10), Terry Lord (13) and Peter Fell (11 not out) all made double figures in the thrash for late runs as the weather closed in. Accrington again struggled early on with Mark Stevenson (1) and Mark Aspin (6) falling to Ormiston and Andy Stevenson (15) being snared by Fell as the visitors were 46-3 in the 12th over. The appearance of Trevor Hatch to partner David Lloyd changed the course of the match. The pair put on an unbroken 86 in just over 8 overs to win the match with 2.1 overs to spare. Lloyd made an unbeaten 73 from 81 balls with seven fours and two sixes and Hatch hit an unbeaten 29 from 32 balls to earn Accrington a welcome victory. Scorecard
