Accrington suffered their fourth defeat of the season, going down agonisingly to local rivals second placed Rishton by just 5 runs at Thorneyholme Road.
Skipper Eric Whalley top scored with 39 and David Chew made 32, before becoming Jim Heyburn's first senior victim on his debut, in Rishton's 136-9 in a 33 overs a-side match.
Professional Alan Worsick took 6-37 and Dave Parsons 2-55, including visiting professional Paul Melville for 7.
Accrington struggled against Rishton's two pronged attack of Ronnie Smith (4-47) and Melville (4-61) who took 4 wickets apiece in the absence of the in-form John Swanney.
At one stage the home side were 59-5, Graeme Smith top scored with 24 with Alan Richardson (17), Ian Birtwistle (16), Graham Beech (13), Geoff Hayhurst (12) and skipper Peter West (10) all chipping in but no-one was able to play a significant innings.
Accrington dropped 11 points behind leaders Burnley after this defeat but still stayed in third place in the table.
