Rishton 118-9, Accrington 122-6
Another fine half century by John Swanney helped Accrington turn the tables on Rishton at Blackburn Road to secure a 4 wicket win and move to within 1 point of the home side in the table. Ian Birtwistle took 5-21 to restrict the home side to 118-9 after openers professional Paul Melville (45) and his skipper Eric Whalley (33) had put on 77. John Ainscough was the only other batsman in double figures with 19 before he was run out by Graham Beech. After losing Graham Beech for 1 with just 3 on the board, Swanney and his skipper Peter West (17) put on 51 for the 3rd wicket in 15 overs to put the visitors in the driving seat. Swanney went on to make 54 before becoming one of four wickets for Barrie Hill (4-38). Rain caused a 12 minute stoppage but Alan Richardson made a brisk 24 as Accrington won for the eleventh time with more than 3 overs to spare. Scorecard
