Accrington crawled to a 1st Round victory against Lowerhouse at Liverpool Road. Dave Parsons removed opener Steve Gee (18) and professional Mohinder Amarnath (9) after Alan Worsick had made the breakthrough by bowling Keith Fairclough for 8, to put the home side on the back foot. No other batsman made double figures as the last 8 wickets tumbled for 28 runs to leave Lowerhouse 62 all out. Worsick took 5-17 off 11 overs, Parsons 2-21 off 9 and Tony Gallagher 2-6. After openers Graham Beech (6) and Geoff Hayhurst (10) had put on 17, three wickets fell without addition to the total with Jon Hartley bowling Beech and Amarnath removing Hayhurst and Alan Richardson in successive balls. John Swanney and Malcolm Taylor repaired the damage with a 4th wicket stand of 38 when Amarnath struck again to clean bowl Swanney for 23. Worsick followed in identical fashion for 1 and then skipper Peter West was run out without scoring as Accrington suddenly got the jitters with less than 10 required but Taylor stood firm to strike the winning runs and finish on 23 not out to seal a drawn out 4 wicket win in the 29th over.
