Accrington began the season with a comprehensive 10 wicket win against Lowerhouse in the season's opener at Thorneyholme Road

The now bearded professional Alan Worsick took 4-23, Dave Parsons 2-18 and Ian Birtwistle 2-21 to restrict the visitors to 73-9 on a lively wicket. The visitors were 36-6 after 25 overs but Ray Haworth top scored with 30 in 38 minutes and Keith Higgins made 20 with Parsons picking up the prized scalp of professional Jimmy Amarnath for 10.

Openers Graham Beech (42) and Geoff Hayhurst (32) saw Accrington to victory in the 21st over with few alarms. The Gate was £135, including car park receipts. Scorecard
