Accrington 108-5, Haslingden 107-7
A rain affected match at Thorneyholme Road saw Accrington beat Haslingden by 5 wickets. In a game reduced to 20 overs a-side, Accrington restricted Haslingden to 107-7 with Dave Parsons taking 4-64, including the wicket of visiting paid man John Dyson for 19, and professional Alan Worsick 2-41. Bryan Knowles top scored with 47, being denied his first ever half century at Accrington by a catch by Alan Richardson off Parsons. Skipper Tony Holden made 15 and Mike Ingham 13 as Accrington's two man attack dominated the innings. Openers Graham Beech and John Swanney all but sealed the match with an opening stand of 74 with Beech making just 11 before being run out. Swanney's half century came up in the 11th over after just 43 minutes and he went on to make 61 before he and Malcolm Taylor (9) fell to the veteran John Ingham. Swanney's collection of £15 was £5 more than the Gate. Richardson made 16 before becoming the second run out victim of the innings and there were just 7 balls remaining when Geoff Hayhurst and Graeme Smith saw the home side to victory on the latter's senior debut.
