A low scoring match at Thorneyholme Road saw Accrington lose for the first time with Nelson coming out on top by just 4 runs after being bowled out for 111. Opener David Reeves made 43 and professional Larry Gomes 23 with home professional Alan Worsick taking 4-42 and Dave Parsons 3-28. Pat Calderbank proved to be the match winner taking 5-36 to dismiss Accrington for 107. Openers Geoff Hayhurst (34) and Graham Beech (15) had given Accrington a solid base with a stand of 28 before Calderbank dismissed the latter.
