Accrington professional Alan Worsick performed one of his famous rescue acts after his side had collapsed to 25-7 in reply to Lowerhouse’s 112-9. Ray Haworth made 27 and Steve Gee 21 with Dave Parsons taking 4-35 and Worsick 3-42 in the visitors’ innings. Lowerhouse professional Jimmy Amarnath (4-57) removed openers Graham Beech and Peter West before either had scored with Alan Holden (3-28) accounting for Geoff Hayhurst, John Swanney and Malcolm Taylor. Alan Kennedy soon fell to Amarnath and Glynn Davies was run out as one disaster followed another. At last Worsick found an ally in his skipper Ian Birtwistle (13) as the pair put on 44. The skipper perished off the first ball of the final over but the home sides paid man smashed two sixes and seven fours from 49 balls in an unbeaten innings of 51 to lead his team to a nail biting victory.
