Accrington 141, East Lancs 149-4
Accrington went down to a second successive defeat after being well placed on 99-2 in reply to East Lancs 149-4. Derek Hollinrake made 37, professional Trevor Chappell 30, David Adams 26 not out, Jim Kenyon 21 and Brian Ratcliffe 17 with Tony Gallagher taking 2-45 in the visitors innings. Openers Geoff Hayhurst (18) and Graham Beech put on 49 before Chappell removed the left hander and Peter West (1), but Beech and John Swanney (18) looked to have set the home side up for victory when Swanney fell to the wily leg spin of Brian Bowling at 99. Only professional Alan Worsick (16) could muster double figures as the rest of the batting collapsed against Bowling (6-47) and Chappell (4-61). Beech’s epic knock ended after the opener had made 66 when he was caught on the boundary by Andy Compton. Scorecard
