A vital stand between skipper Ian Birtwistle (33 not out) and Tony Gallagher (16 not out) got 3rd placed Accrington out of trouble for the second week running as the champions won at Lowerhouse by 20 runs. Alan Holden took 5-39 to reduce Accrington to 70-6 but Peter West (28) and Alan Kennedy (21) batted well as Accrington recovered to 142-8. A mid innings stand between the fit again Colin Milburn (39) and Steve Gee (28) threatened an upset but Birtwistle took 3-14 to restrict the home side to 122-8. Accrington now have 42 points from 15 matches.
