Accrington
returned to winning ways with a 19 run win at Rishton. Malcolm Taylor
again top scored for Accrington with 63 off just 59 balls with Geoff
Hayhurst just missing out on a half century. The opener was run out
for 48 after a good partnership with Taylor after earlier putting on
38 for the first wicket with Graeme Fowler, who made 18 before being
superbly caught by Bob Hutchinson off Barry Hill. Accrington went on
to make 167-7. Tight bowling by the visitors' four pronged attack made
scoring difficult for Rishton who lost the vital wicket of professional
Aftab Baloch who was clean bowled by his opposite number Worsick for
7. Hill made 45 before becoming one of four wickets for Tony Gallagher
(4-37). Ian Birtwistle chipped in with 3-33 with Peter Whelan (21 not
out), David Wells (21) and John Ainscough (10) putting up late resistance
to prevent Accrington from gaining a bonus point but the visitors moved
back up the third place.
