Accrington
moved to within one victory of the Lancashire League championship after
beating Rawtenstall by 6 wickets at Thorneyholme Road. Alan Worsick
took 5-37 and Dave Parsons 2-37
to restrict Rawtenstall to 123-9 with professional Dave Brickett hitting
30 and Keith French 27. Geoff Hayhurst then hit an unbeaten 54 to steer
Accrington to victory with 3 overs to spare. Malcolm Taylor also weighed
in with 23, John Swanney made 16 and Alan Richardson 15 after Peter
West had fallen to George Croisdale early in the innings. Victory at
East Lancs the following day would clinch the title for Accrington for
the first time since 1961.
