leaders Accrington picked up 5 points at Seedhill with a hard fought
3 wicket victory over Nelson. Professional Alan Worsick took 7-36 to
dismiss the home side for 132 after some early resistance from the top
order with Chris Hartley (42), Frank Taylor (21) and professional Collis
King (18) all looking set for big scores before being dismissed by Worsick.
Wicketkeeper Terry Neville picked up three victims with Tony Gallagher
(2-44) helping to clean up the tail. King replied with 5-32 but opener
Geoff Hayhurst batted through for an unbeaten 38 to see Accrington home
with Gallagher (8) again in at the death. Malcolm Taylor returned to
form with a hard hit 49 and Worsick hit 26 after the early loss of Graham
Beech (5) and Alan Richardson (3) to King. Accrington,
who won for the eighth match in a row, seemed to be strolling home at
123-4 in the 27th over but 3 wickets fell without addition to the total
to give Nelson fresh hope. Enfield and Burnley, the clubs just behind
Accrington played out the first tie of the season to leave Accrington
7 points clear at the top with six matches to play.
