Accrington v Lowerhouse

Alan
Worsick celebrated his re-engagement for 1976 by blasting a typical
76 with three sixes off a Lowerhouse attack without Trevor Jones and
Alan Holden in Accrington's 47 run win at Thorneyholme Road. Worsick
then took 3-50 as the visitors struggled to 153-6 after Accrington had
made 200-7. Geoff Hayhurst (26), Malcolm Taylor (25), Alan Kennedy (14),
Ian Birtwistle (14 not out) and Peter West (12) all made double figures
in a good team performance. Keith Higgins (45), Brian Higgin (34) and
professional Bob Lanchbury (39) batted steadily but Lowerhouse never
looked like challenging the home sides total. Highlight in the field
for Accrington was Tony Gallagher's superb return catch to dismiss Lanchbury.
This match was also significant because it was Graeme Fowler's last
for Accrington who remained in third place behind new leaders Burnley
and champions Ramsbottom.
