Lancashire
League
Lowerhouse v Accrington
Saturday August 9th
1975
Accrington
went to the top of the table for the first time after a 6 wicket win
at Lowerhouse on the day that leaders Burnley went down to a shock defeat
at Nelson. Professional Alan Worsick took 5-27 and Tony Gallagher bowled
a fine spell late in the innings to take 3-2 to dismiss the league's
bottom side for 83. At one point Lowerhouse were 45-7 with Worsick having
taken 5-5 in his first eight overs on a very poor wicket. A stand of
27 between Mick Jones (19) and Trevor Jones (11) dragged the innings
out to the 28th over and when Accrington's reply started, light rain
began to fall. The recalled opener Graham Beech top scored with 35 and
Alan Richardson made 21 as Accrington notched up a sixth successive
win with few alarms and 7 overs to spare. After 18 matches Accrington
are top with 67 points, 3 ahead of Enfield and 4 ahead of Burnley.
