Accrington v Haslingden
Saturday June 21st
1975
A
career best 81 from Malcolm Taylor took Accrington to their highest
score of the season as they defeated Haslingden by 82 runs to record
a fourth successive league win. Openers Geoff Hayhurst (23) and Graham
Beech (12) put on 37 against a lightweight Haslingden attack which was
without the services of former Accrington professional Peter Swart due
to a rib injury. John Swanney, playing his first match of the season,
hit 33. Alan Worsick fell to Jack Coupe for a second successive duck
but Alan Kennedy (28) and Ian Birtwistle (12) put on a late 7th wicket
stand of 31 to take the score to 203-6. Worsick removed Bill Grimshaw
before a run had been scored but Richard Bostock (31) and Swart (60)
put on 70 when Tony Gallagher clean bowled the opener. After Ian Birtwistle
(4-26) removed Mike Ingham (1) and skipper Tony Holden (16) Worsick
returned to take four wickets for five runs in two overs to
record figures of 5-29 as Haslingden
subsided from 116-4 to 121 all out. The only blackspot for Accrington
was an injury to Alan Richardson, who split the webbing on a hand when
dropping a catch on the boundary, which would keep him out of the Worsley
Cup tie with Rishton the next day.
