Accrington
lost for the second time in successive days as their title hopes took
a major blow. Dik Abed was unplayable at the start of the Accrington
innings taking 4 early wickets as the home side lost 4 wickets with
the score on 6 to the Enfield professional. Opener Geoff Hayhurst stood
firm making 15 in a dogged innings which occupied 1 hour and 27 minutes.
Alan Worsick carried on where he left off last Sunday at Dill Hall Lane
smashing four huge sixes in an innings of 77, scored in just 55 balls
in a 5th wicket stand of 69 with Hayhurst, but when Geoff Allen had
him well caught by Eric Nuttall, the home side subsided to 122 all out
with Abed finishing with 7-49 and Peter Holt taking 2-2 in 10 balls
to wrap the innings up. Eddie Slinger hit 29 before being bowled by
Tony Gallagher but it was to be Abed's day with the South African hitting
55 to take Enfield to an easy 6 wicket win. Accrington
were now 9 points adrift of leaders Ramsbottom after seven matches.
