Bacup v Accrington

Accrington
went down to a 7 wicket defeat at Lanehead after setting Bacup a target
of 178 for victory. Openers Geoff Hayhurst (38) and Graham Beech (36)
gave the visitors a good start putting on 65 in less than an hour. Malcolm
Taylor (28) carried on the good work but professional Alan Worsick became
the first of four victims for Phil Lord (4-45) for a third successive
league duck. Skipper Peter West hit big six off John Beaumont but then
became Phil Lord's second victim for 18. John Swanney held the middle
order together with an unbeaten 26 but Accrington were bowled out for
177 in the final over. Uncharacteristic lapses in the field didn't help
Accrington's cause after Worsick had opener Barry Wilson caught by Taylor
for 6. The Accrington professional had his opposite number Robin Jones
taken by Terry Neville behind the wicket off a mistimed hook shot for
20 but opener Geoff Heaton went on to make 53 before Worsick clean bowled
him. Roger Law survived several chances to make an unbeaten 41 with
Ronnie Kershaw (46 not out) keeping him company as Bacup won comfortably
with 17 balls to spare. Accrington
lost for the third time to miss out on the chance of catching up with
the top two Burnley and Ramsbottom, who both lost on their travels.
Bacup won for the fifth time after a poor start to the season.
