Accrington won for the first time in four matches when they beat Lowerhouse by 7 wickets in a low scoring game at Thorneyholme Road. Skipper Eddie Robinson took 4-38 with Bob Ratcliffe (2-9), Ian Birtwistle (2-13) and Alan Worsick (2-32) all picking up a couple of wickets apiece to bowl the visitors out for 94. Geoff Hayhurst then hit a career best 57 to lead Accrington to victory in the 17th over. Worsick picked up openers Mick Swift (7) and Brian Higgin (23), Ratcliffe dismissed Joe Holland (1) and David Hartley (1) with Birtwistle accounting for professional Des Sparks (13) and Jack Stott (0). Robinson added the scalps of Tony Payne (16), skipper Barry Smith (0), Duncan Hall (23) and Wally Garnett (8) to his already impressive haul of wickets this season. Stott removed Accrington professional Bruce Francis for 14 and Sparks dismissed Russ Cuddihy for the same score but Hayhurst took Accrington to the brink of victory before falling to Sparks. Ratcliffe (7 not out) and Dewhurst (0 not out) saw the home side over the line to secure a sixth win of the season. The result took Accrington up to second place, 1 point behind leaders Enfield after 10 matches. Scorecard
