Accrington dropped down to second place in front of a bumper crowd of over 2,000 people, who paid £225 to watch the match, after being held to a draw by Enfield at Thorneyholme Road. The visitors made the most of a good batting wicket after being put in to bat before skipper Ian Metcalf declared at 4.45pm leaving Accrington 130 minutes to score 211 for victory. Eddie Slinger hit 40 out of an opening stand of 58 with Geoff Dixon before being caught behind by Terry Neville off Bob Ratcliffe (2-23). Metcalf also fell to Ratcliffe without addition, caught by Geoff Hayhurst. Alan Worsick held a fine catch off skipper Eddie Robinson to end Dixon's innings of 41 at 81. Professional Dik Abed and veteran Jim Smith then put on 52 for the 4th wicket before Abed fell to Worsick for 38. One run later George Holt offered a return catch to Robinson but Derek Rushton joined Smith to add 56 for the 6th wicket. Alan Richardson ended the stand by having his former team-mate Rushton caught by Worsick for 32. Smith was run out for 40 at 199 and Bernard Reidy fell to Worsick for 10 at 210 at which point Enfield declared. Openers Hayhurst and professional Bruce Francis put on 31 before Hayhurst became Rushton's 200th Lancashire League wicket, trapped in front for 5. Russ Cuddihy joined his professional hitting his second half century of the weekend, making a fine 71 out of 96 for the 2nd wicket before being stumped by Holt off Smith. Francis finished unbeaten on 63 with Lindon Dewhurst 9 not out as Accrington's run chase never materialised much to the disappointment of the huge crowd. Scorecard
