League leaders Todmorden saw their lead cut to just 1 point after being held to a draw by Accrington at Centre Vale, allowing Nelson and Colne to close in after both clubs notched vital wins. Accrington piled up 213-7 declared at Centre Vale with skipper Lindon Dewhurst hitting an unbeaten 74 and professional Bobby Simpson hitting his tenth successive half century. The Australian hit 6 fours in his knock of 53 whilst Dewhurst cracked eleven fours against Todmorden's five man attack. The Accrington skipper added an unbroken 75 for the 8th wicket with Eddie Robinson (26 not out) in 43 minutes. Bobby Marshall was the pick of the Todmorden bowlers with 4-66. In reply, Todmorden skipper Harold Dawson hit nine fours in an innings of 66, adding 79 for the 5th wicket with Mike Jowett who hit seven in his 51 after the home side had collapsed to 53-4. Simpson picked up 5-68 but Todmorden's last pair held out for the last seven minutes to earn a draw, finishing on 153-9. Scorecard
