Bobby Simpson smashed two club records in making an unbeaten 72 in Accrington's 6 wicket win over Rishton at Thorneyholme Road. The Australian notched a seventh successive half century which was his twelfth of the season to erase the name of Jim Bailey from the Accrington record books. His innings included eleven boundaries and he featured in an opening stand of 94 with Frank Rushton who hit nine fours in making 60. Jim Bradshaw was also unbeaten on 25 in an unbroken 5 wicket stand of 54 with his professional as Accrington got home with 13 minutes to spare. Derek Rushton had earlier taken 4-41 and Eddie Robinson 3-25 in Rishton's 172-9 declared. Kevin Flatley led a rearguard action with 44, adding 74 for the 8th wicket with Ernie Banks (30 not out) after Rishton had struggled to 88-7. Scorecard
