Philpott creamed 21 boundaries, adding 86 for the 3rd wicket with Richard Wheatcroft (33) in the visitors 235-5 declared. Derek Rushton picked up 3-57 for the home side who replied with 206-3. Professional Bobby Simpson hit his first league century, finishing unbeaten on 122, passing 500 runs for the season in the process, after hitting a dozen boundaries. Simpson put on 50 for the 3rd wicket with skipper Lindon Dewhurst (23) and an unbroken 101 for the 4th wicket with Russ Cuddihy who made an unbeaten 33. Scorecard
