Accrington v Nelson Todmorden drew level with Nelson at the top after Frank Taylor's side had been well beaten at Accrington. Amateurs Jim Eland (4-30) and Eddie Robinson (4-10) combined to bowl Nelson out for 127. Wardle hit 65, his second successive half century against Accrington with Bob Warburton hitting an unbeaten 28, but the rest of the Nelson batsmen struggled against Eland's medium pace and young Robinson's leg spin. Professional Bobby Simpson and Frank Rushton tore Nelson's attack to pieces with both men passing the half century mark until Rushton fell to Colin Madden with just 4 needed for victory. Simpson carried his bat for an unbeaten 73 which like Wardle's knock earlier, contained a dozen boundaries. Rushton hit nine in his innings of 52. Scorecard
