The derby match at Accrington ended in a draw after Enfield professional Conrad Hunte had been dismissed for just 23 to send his average for the season plummeting to 196.5. Home professional Bobby Simpson hit form with 89, his highest score for Accrington to date in the home sides 201-5 declared. Frank Rushton made 39 in an opening stand of 103 with the Australian who hit a dozen boundaries in his innings. Skipper Lindon Dewhurst was unbeaten on 26 and Tommy Cunliffe made 17 before becoming one of three victims for Jack Simmons (3-68). Enfield were going well in reply when Bill Haworth (2-37) removed both Hunte and Donald Hargreaves (0) at 45. Eddie Slinger made 40 and Brian Case 37 but tight bowling by Derek Rushton (3-17) and Russ Cuddihy (2-9) restricted Enfield to 132-7 before an unbroken stand of 40 between skipper Jack Riley (18) and wicketkeeper Jack Charnley (19 not out) took the total to 172.
