Church v Accrington
Saturday May 30th 1959

Accrington won for the second time this season against struggling neighbours Church at West End. Accrington professional Bobby Simpson took 3-8 in Church's innings of 85. After a poor start, Church recovered to 81-6 with skipper Sam Pilkington top scoring with 31, but Simpson's late introduction into the attack saw the Australian polish off the home side with three quick wickets after Jim Eland had accounted for the Church skipper. Sadashiv Patil removed his opposite number Simpson without a run on the board and his fellow opener Frank Rushton for 5, with Reg Savage picking up Tommy Cunliffe (8) and Jackie Hope without scoring to leave Accrington struggling at 13-4. The Dewhurst brothers Roy and skipper Lindon fought back to take Accrington to a 6 wicket win without further loss. Accrington batted on after passing Church's score to enable Roy Dewhurst to complete an unbeaten half century which included seven boundaries. Lindon Dewhurst was also unbeaten on 27. Scorecard
