Accrington ended a run of four successive defeats with a draw against Burnley at Thorneyholme Road. Professional Bobby Simpson failed again, making 7 on his promotion to open the innings. Tommy Cunliffe defied the pain of a leg injury sustained when he was hit by a return throw to make an unbeaten 50. Professional Collie Smith took 4-32 and Jack Schofield (3-46) and Ross Howarth (3-31) picked up 3 wickets apiece for Burnley. Roy Dewhurst also made 21 for the home side. Burnley ran out of time, finishing on 128 with 5 wickets in hand. Skipper Derek Riley hit an unbeaten 67 with nine fours, adding 64 for the 4th wicket with Don Ormerod (30) after Jim Eland (2-43) and Brian Rutter (1-34) had made early inroads for Accrington. Riley's half century was made in 57 minutes to make him the leader in the race for the Telegraph Batting Tankard. Scorecard
