Burnley v Accrington
Saturday May 2nd 1959

Burnley professional Collie Smith hit a superb unbeaten 105 to lead his side to an 8 wicket win over Accrington at Turf Moor with just six minutes to spare. The West Indian hit fourteen boundaries and two sixes in typical calypso style. One of the sixes cleared the football stand and was found on the pitch in the centre circle. Peter Stansfield was also unbeaten on 27, adding an unbroken 101 for the 3rd wicket with his professional. Accrington professional Bobby Simpson had earlier hit his maiden league half century, hitting an unbeaten 67 in the visitors 150-4 declared. Openers Frank Rushton (25) and Tommy Cunliffe (20) also lent solid support. Scorecard
