Accrington
A v Asian XI
The A Team found form at last, scoring a thrilling 3 run win over 8 man Asian XI at Wilsons. Accrington won the toss and batted. Nigel Stockley (38) and Phil Carter (26) put on 50 for the first wicket before Carter was out. A late flurry from young Waqas Ahmed (14), Zaed Hussain (13) and Tom Pendergast (13 not out) took the total up to 131-7. The Asian XI began quickly with Mahmood -ul-Hassan first to go for 19 to a fine catch in the gully by Paul Burrows off Christian Armstrong. Armstrong struck again to remove the other opener Ikhlaq Hussain in a fine opening spell. The runs continued to flow quickly but wickets tumbled. A break for thunder and rain helped Accrington as the Asian XI needed 25 to win with 3 wickets left off 18 overs. The vital wicket of Mohammed Riaz fell to Tom Pendergast with young keeper Richard Williams taking his second fine catch. Armstrong returned to take another wicket and the last man was run out by Paul Burrows as Accrington held their nerve, much to the relief of the skipper who had dropped two catches at the end. Bright spots were the batting of Waqas, the bowling of Christian Armstrong and the wicketkeeping of Richard Williams.
