Martin is a highly experienced right handed early order batsman who used to be a useful left arm seam bowler earlier in his career. Martin's opportunities were limited until he became a regular in 1991 when Shane Warne was professional. Martin's best season was in 1994 when he scored 469 Lancashire League runs. Nowadays he plays his cricket mainly in the seconds. In all he has scored over 5,000 runs and taken over 300 wickets for Accrington at all levels. Martin scored his maiden century against Colne Seconds in 2002.
