£5,000 loss for club

Tuesday January 27th 2004
Accrington Cricket Club made a loss of £5,069 last year. An increase of over £5,000 on expenditure, mainly due to employing a groundsman, was the main reason for the deficit.

Income also dropped by almost £2,600 with sponsorship down by over £1,000 and Social Functions down by over £1,400.

Retiring Chairman Peter Barratt urged the members to 'stand up and be counted' and support the efforts of the Working Party set up in December to raise income.

Mr Barratt also thanked the Ladies Committee for contributing the magnificent sum of £2750 through profits from the Tea Room.

The Working Party currently has three major projects underway, including a Gala Dinner with snooker legend Willie Thorn at King Street Club on Friday March 19th. Tickets priced at £20 are available from Rod Kenyon 01254 387864.

The AGM agreed to increase subscriptions by 10 per cent with playing members on a no pay no play rule at the request of First Team Manager Ian Wilson.

Mr Wilson revealed that problems with players not paying up on time had resulted in selection problems with no fewer than 26 players being used last season.

Peter Barratt was elected as the new Club President. A new chairman will be elected at the first meeting of the new committees.

Another former chairman Brian Prickett was elected a Life Member. Mr Prickett was Lancashire League President between 1997 and 2001.
