Lindon Dewhurst Junior

May 7th 2002
It is with deep sadness that Accrington Cricket Club announce the sudden death of Lindon Dewhurst Junior.

Lindon was a member of the Accrington team that won the Worsley Cup in 1970 when Bruce Francis was the professional. Lindon made his 1st XI debut in 1962, scoring 1835 runs in the Lancashire League between 1962 and 1970.

Club President Geoff Hayhurst was also a member of the 1970 cup winning team: "Lindon was the best amateur player of fast bowling I have ever seen and he was one of the true great characters in the Lancashire League. He always had a smile on his face and he was extremely knowledgeable about the game of cricket. He was a great guy and will be sadly missed."

Lindon's father Lindon Senior was a former club captain and the two played in the same side together in 1962.

Lindon leaves his father Lindon, brother Leonard, his daughter Debbie, son-in-law Ian, grandson Felix, stepdaughters Maxine and Janine and their families.

The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Lindon's family at this sad time.

The flag at Accrington Cricket Club will be flown at half mast this weekend as a mark of respect.

Details of the funeral will be announced shortly.
