Lowerhouse 3rd 11 v Accrington

Lowerhouse 196-4 Accrington 169-8

On a sunbaked batting wicket Lowerhouse managed to win the toss and bat first. The pitch was drier than an old mans armpits and resembled a dust bowl from the subcontinent. It was going to be hard work getting wickets and so it proved as Lowerhouse only lost 4 wickets in amassing 196. We managed to drop their main batter 3 times on his way to an unbeaten 80. Waqas was the leading bowler with 2-36 off his 10 and young Simon Hanson bowled superbly having figures of 10-4-34-0.......he is an outstanding prospect for the club along side Waqas the Raja (Raja means third class in Punjabi and refers to his lowly class back in the Punjab!...it shows that through dedication hardwork and natural talent you can overcome all disabilities and succeed....), Where as young Simon has the distinct advantage of not being seen in his run up until he reaches the front of the stumps...I'm not one to talk! But well done to both of them.

Our reply began very slowly and by the time the 20th over was bowled and I went to the crease we crawled our way to 44-3. I tried to accelerate the run rate with some success before I was bowled for 28 and we required 110 off the last 19 overs, our last hope, Dave Hargreaves went for a quickfire 11 off 6 ball before he came back to the pavilion as well. While all this was going on, one of the Lowerhouse supporters had a sly dig at me telling me that the average age for his team was 15 and a half......I told him that this was the same for us......weight wise!.

We ended up on 169-8 off our allotted 46 overs and definitely missed the aggression Of Ian Johnson and Paul Burrows...but it was a fine day for some our young guns as Simon and Waqas followed up with the bat as well, with 20 and 18 respectively and Matt 'Geoffrey Boycott is too aggressive for me' Donnelly top scored for us with a 'patient' 29 and 1-24 with his bowling. These 3 guys are emerging and developing very well as genuine all rounders and are putting together some consistent performances to boot. Even though we lost I was very satisfied because of the performance of the younger guys and in the end it was only our catching that let us down.....

In all the matches we have played I have been quite content as the team may have only won one game out of 4, buthave shown great fight, character and guts. Furthermore we have been competitive in all the matches.
