2nd 11 v East Lancs 2nd 11 Our match against East Lancs was rain affected. Our captain Dave kennedy managed to walk to the square without wheel chair support and won the toss (miracles do happen in pairs!), The clouds were gathering over the ground and East Lancs were asked to bat first. They had a painfully slow start as young Saj and 'Nasty' Waz bowled a disciplined line and length beating the batsmen on numerous occassions. The East Lancs batters were getting plenty of batting 'tips' and sound advice from us in the field which they heeded quite well....its the equivalant of a current Zimbabwe first 11 giving verbals to the Australians!. They were 30-1 off 15 overs before the heavens opened up. When we came back out again the game was reduced to 38 overs and off the last 23 overs East Lancs clobbered our inconsistent bowling for a further 182 runs. Little Saj apart who bowled brilliantly, managed to concede only 38 runs off his 14 overs and was unlucky not to get a wicket. The remaining bowlers frankly threw some real 'pies' down. Even an epeliptic disco dancing 80 year old with an eye patch and a wooden leg would have been able to hit some of the stuff we bowled, come to think about it I think one of East Lancs opening batters fitted this bill.....he managed to get 39! Nasty Waz asked me to say that he should have had 5 wickets and his figures of 2-79 off 14 overs camoflage the real 'penetration' and trouble he caused the batsmen. Frankly speaking the only people he troubled was his own team as we constantly had to retrieve the ball from the boundary! To be fair his first spell was a fine example of pitched up slow medium pace bowling and he did constantley beat the bat....even though at times the bat ended up beating the ball about! Our batting display was not much better as we began slowly and when 12 overs were left we were 78-5 off 26 overs and then 132-8 off 38. The only scores to note was Nasty's aggressive 46 and a welcome return to form for Richard Williams who scored 27. Another loss. |
