COLNE 257-8 ACCRINGTON 209-8

Having won the toss I promptly put Colne into bat on a warn wicket. Everything seemed to happen so quick in the first 6 overs, catches were put down, misfields were in abundance and so were boundaries and edges as the Colne openers posted an erratic and 'electric' 46. Its like as if wacko Michael Jacko took over proceeding s and everything was in the 'air' (like his 'kid')!. The omens were not good. In the end Colne had reached an ecstatic 257-8.

8-9 catches were dropped and at least 30-40 runs were gifted in childish fielding errors. My own personal thoughts were that I'm off to the opticians to see if they will give me a team discount for a 3rd 11 eye check, and also go to the drugs rehabilitation clinic to get some of my players checked in for glue sniffing ....something out there today was responsible for my teams incoherent fielding display....I think it might be aliens, or it might be ex KGB snipers lurking in the trees on the boundary taking pot shots at my players everytime they tried to field the ball, the third 11 might have even been targets for the 'A-Team'.

Colne is a strange place with many a mysterious character lurking within its back alleys and its dwellings. The one major highlight on the bowling front was the emergence and great maturity of 11 year old Matty Schofield on his 3rds debut, whose figures of 3-47 off 8 overs should have read more like 5/6 for 30. [Zed, I believe Matty actually took a hat-trick, according to Uncle Lionel, ED]

Little Saj showed his class with 3-40 from his 10 overs and there was not much to shout about elsewhere. The fact that I used 9 bowlers highlighted my frustrations to no end with the fielding.

Our reply as always on big run chases was a decent one but one that ultimately did not lead to victory as our innings rested on 209-8 with 5 players scoring more than 20, again young Matty Schofield led the way with a fine 25. It was a brilliant all round effort from him today and he showed many others how to bat, bowl and even field. It's not a bad idea that, having an 11 year old coaching us. Paul Burrows was top scorer with 32 before running himself out (after hitting 3 balls out the ground as well!). Disappointed and a little dejected but I can hear B.A Barracus in the back ground shouting 'sucka fools'
