tall stories

Today we again welcome the players, officials and supporters of our local rivals Enfield to Thorneyholme Road this time for a Worsley Cup 2nd round fixture. Last weekend’s game against the same opposition proved to be a thrilling affair, with no fewer than 543 runs scored on a wicket that was once again a credit to our Groundsman Ian M c Crae. Enfield won the toss and decided to field first, this proved to be a decision that also suited ourselves as we rattled up 273 – 8 from our 50 overs. This total was amassed with the help of half centuries from Matt Wilson, Graham Lloyd and the Pro Roy Silva with three other batsmen scoring over 20, so a real team effort with the bat.

In reply Enfield made us work very hard indeed for our victory and came in just three runs short at 270 in one of the most thrilling finishes here for some time. Today however we turn our attention to the Worsley Cup and as often happens the draw has thrown up a very quick return for our neighbours. Last weeks game tells us that they are not a team to be underestimated and we will be going all out to reach the semi-finals. At the same time our 2 nd XI will be trying to do the same at Nelson and we wish Lenny and the boys the best of luck, it would be nice to have both teams into the semi’s. So as always enjoy today’s game and give the lads all your support.

Enjoy the game.
Ian Wilson
