tall stories

Today for our first home game of the season we welcome the players, officials and supporters from Haslingden to Thorneyholme Road for what will be a tough test for us. We got away to an absolute flyer with a fine win last weekend away at Lowerhouse. They are a very strong side and expected to be up amongst the challengers for honours again this year, so it was nice to beat them on their own patch with a solid all round team performance.

Unfortunately our Professional Roy Silva had managed to contract a chest infection and missed the game, but we were able to obtain the services of Morecambe Pro – Verne Coetsee as a last minute replacement and he produced a magnificent spell of bowling returning figures of 2-18 from 18 overs. With just one run per over going off the paid man the Lowerhouse batsmen tried in vain to attack our amateur bowlers and the skipper profited handsomely with 6 wickets for 56, a fine start to the season for him. With the bat both Graham Lloyd and Jimmy Hayhurst on their return to us got into the thirties and Simon Hanson stuck around for an unbeaten 16 as we reached 130 on a difficult early season track. Being Accrington we could not do things simply and Mohsin managed an early contender for “comedy dismissal” of the season when he was stumped posing outside his crease by a very alert Jack McGregor.

Let’s hope that we were able to continue our good start in yesterday’s game at Bacup, it would be nice to get two or three early wins under our belt to give us a platform to build upon. So I hope you enjoy today’s game and welcome back to one and all.
